Circuit 7 Review
It was goals all the way on both matchdays of circuit 7 of the MPFL, and there were significant results along the way as well.
Circuit 7 did little to disturb the established order at the top of the MPFL 2026 table, though it did produce one of the more significant results of the season as Johor Darul Ta'zim served notice that they intend to push Selangor all the way to the wire.
Matchday 1 belonged largely to the league's two heavyweights. Selangor continued their imperious form with an 11-3 demolition of Terengganu, Marlon Oliveira Araujo among a hat-trick of scorers, while JDT were every bit as ruthless in a 15-1 rout of PFA Odin Sarawak, Mohamad Awalludin helping himself to a treble of his own. Elsewhere, Pahang Rangers edged a six-goal thriller with KL City, and Wipers at least picked up a first point of the campaign in a 1-1 draw with ATM.
Matchday 2 brought the standout fixture of the circuit, as JDT travelled to Pahang and won 5-4 in a match that had genuine title-race implications. The result lifted JDT above Pahang and into second place, eight points adrift of Selangor but with real momentum behind them. Selangor, meanwhile, made it two wins from two in the circuit with a routine 5-0 defeat of ATM, stretching their unbeaten run to thirteen matches and opening up a commanding gap at the summit. Elsewhere, Terengganu and USM shared a wild 6-6 draw, and KL City edged out Wipers 1-0 to bounce back from their Matchday 1 defeat.
The latest table makes for stark reading. Selangor sit top on 39 points from thirteen unbeaten matches, with JDT their closest challengers on 31 after Sunday's win at Pahang. The Rangers slipped to third on 28 points but remain firmly in the mix, while KL City occupy fourth on 20. Terengganu and ATM make up the mid-table on 14 and 12 points respectively, with PFA Odin and USM below them, and Wipers still rooted to the foot of the division on a single point from thirteen games. Marlon's tally of 28 goals keeps him clear at the top of the scoring charts, with Pahang's Felipe De Souza next best on 25.
With two circuits of the regular season now remaining before the campaign moves into its top-six play-off phase, the coming weeks look set to determine not just the destination of top spot, but which of the chasing pack can force their way into contention before it's too late.
