Marlon Oliveira Araújo, known simply as Marlon, is a Brazilian futsal defender who has become one of the most respected defenders in the modern game. Born on 28 December 1987, he plays as a fixo (defensive pivot) and is known for his strength, marking, and leadership at the back.
Marlon built his reputation in Brazil, winning the Liga Futsal title with clubs such as ACBF and other top teams in the Brazilian league. His solid performances there helped him secure a long and successful career in Europe.
He spent several seasons in Spain’s top division, playing for Movistar Inter, Palma Futsal and ElPozo Murcia. With Palma he won the UEFA Futsal Champions League, and he remained a key figure in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.
Marlon has been a permanent fixture in the Brazil national futsal team, representing his country at multiple World Cups and continental tournaments. In 2024, he was part of the Brazilian squad that won the FIFA Futsal World Cup, and his role at the back was crucial in that campaign.
His World Cup-winning season also brought him an individual honour: he finished as runner-up in the tournament’s best player rankings, taking the Silver Ball. That title underlined his status as one of the leading defenders of his generation.
On court, Marlon is the type of player who wins games without always scoring. He reads the game well, blocks attacks early and organises the defence, often stepping into more advanced roles when needed.
Even in his late 30s, he has stayed at the top, recently returning to Brazil to play for Yeesco Futsal while still remaining a reference point for the national team. His mix of discipline, experience and calm under pressure makes him a classic example of the modern Brazilian fixo.
