The regular season is over, now six teams will battle it out in the play-offs to become MPFL champions 2026
The MPFL 2026 regular season is complete, and the six clubs who will contest the play-offs are now confirmed. Selangor finish top after an unbeaten 16 wins from 16, with Johor Darul Ta'zim second on 40 points, both securing an automatic bye straight into the semi-finals. Pahang Rangers (37 points), KL City (23), Terengganu (20) and ATM (18) fill the remaining four places and must now win their way through a knockout round to join them.
Under the competition's play-off system, the third and sixth-placed teams meet in one tie, and the fourth and fifth-placed teams meet in the other, with the higher-placed side hosting. That gives two play-off matches: Pahang Rangers against ATM, and KL City against Terengganu.
Pahang Rangers, with Felipe De Souza and Rodrigo Da Silva sharing the bulk of their goals throughout the campaign, start clear favourites against an ATM side who scraped into sixth by five points from USM but showed their capacity to cause problems in a wild 5-4 win over USM in Circuit 9. KL City against Terengganu is harder to call, KL City's greater consistency across the season set against Terengganu's firepower, led by Alif Mat Amin's 21 league goals, and a defence that has looked far less secure than their opponents'.
The winners advance into the semi-finals to join Selangor and JDT. The draw already dictates the shape of it: the winner of Pahang Rangers against ATM will face JDT, while the winner of KL City against Terengganu takes on Selangor, who go into the knockout stage as the form side by some distance, unbeaten and yet to concede more than a couple of goals in most matches this season.
USM, PFA Odin Sarawak and bottom side Wipers, who finish seventh, eighth and ninth respectively, see their seasons end here, with all three failing to threaten the top six at any real stage of the campaign.
With four teams still to discover their semi-final opponents, the play-off round promises to shape a knockout stage that already has a clear favourite in Selangor, but plenty still to be settled beneath them.
