Evandro Borges: Selangor's Brazilian Weapon at the Heart of an Unbeaten Season

Twenty-eight goals and twenty-five assists in his first season, nine more already in his second. Evandro Borges is the engine of the only unbeaten side in the MPFL.

When Evandro Borges arrived at Selangor for the 2025 season, he wasted little time making himself indispensable. In 18 matches that first campaign he scored 28 goals and contributed 25 assists, a direct involvement in nearly three goals per game, numbers that made him one of the most productive players in Malaysian futsal and earned him a place at the very centre of Edgar Baldasso's attacking system.

The 27-year-old winger from Urussanga in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina has not slowed down in 2026.

Through seven matches of the new season, Evandro has scored nine goals as Selangor have maintained a perfect record, seven wins from seven, the only side in the division yet to drop a point. His range has been the defining feature. A single strike against ATM, two against PFA Odin, one apiece against USM and Terengganu, then a match-winning hat-trick against JDT in circuit three, goals in the 3rd, 20th and 29th minutes of a 5-3 win that earned him the MVP award and handed the defending champions their sole defeat of the season. A further goal against Pahang Rangers in circuit four confirmed that the form is not fading.

The JDT result stood out not just for the scoreline but for what it said about Selangor's capacity to beat the best. João Nuno Alves De Almeida's side had looked close to untouchable going into that match; Evandro and his teammates proved otherwise. It was the performance of a player who rises for the occasion.

His route to Malaysia was forged in the Brazilian domestic game, where he played for Tubarão in the Liga Nacional de Futsal before making the move abroad. He has spoken of this as the best phase of his career, and the numbers bear it out. “My objective is always to win and improve my numbers,” he told one Brazilian outlet during the 2025 season. “I want to keep being decisive, win titles and seek new challenges. I am ready to go even further.”

Selangor won the Malaysia Cup at the start of the 2026 campaign, with Evandro scoring and adding two assists in the final. Another title push is underway. With seven wins from seven and their Brazilian winger in the form of his career, Edgar Baldasso's side are making a compelling case to be considered the strongest team in the MPFL.
