JDT bounced back from last week's first defeat of the season, to Selangor, with a big win over ATM. Despite missing Bruno Taffy through injury, the defending champions proved too strong for opponents who lost for the first time in five games.
Having not played on Matchday 1, JDT had the chance to put that Selangor result behind them against an ATM side who had beaten PFA Odin 5-1 twenty four hours earlier.
It took the champions just four minutes to take the lead, Mahadir Harahap's clever chip over keeper Zikry Aiman bringing him his sixth goal of the season.
ATM, who started the day in fifth after KL City's earlier win, missed a golden chance to equalise when Raziman Opao put the ball over the bar from close range.
JDT dominated possession and added a second after nine minutes, Andresito setting up Ekmal Shahrin to finish well on the turn.
João Almeida's side may have been without Bruno Taffy but they did not look fazed. Norakmal Norizal found the net with a well taken third, then two minutes later made it 4-0 with an even better finish as the Southern Tigers took a healthy lead into half time.
JDT wasted no time after the break. Captain Firdaus Ambiah angled a volley back across the keeper, and after Anas Aqasya gave the ball away Andresito finished to make it 6-0.
From there ATM came back into the match. Anas Aqasya stabbed home from close range after a corner to pull one back, and goalkeeper Syafuan Azizan got in on the act too, scoring from well inside his own half to make it 6-2.
Man of the match Ekmal Shahrin then scored the goal of the game, squeezing the ball home from the narrowest of angles, and with seconds to go Norakmal Norizal completed his hat-trick to make it 8-2.
There was still time for Imran Samsudin to grab another consolation, just minutes after he was booked.
Defeat ended ATM's four match unbeaten run, while JDT moved onto 16 points, joint second with Pahang, who were in action in the final game.
