Pahang Rangers took on KL City on Matchday One of Circuit Three, knowing a win would take them top of the MPFL table for a few hours at least.
KL City had won just one of their last three matches and were heavily beaten by defending champions JDT in their last outing.
Pahang pressed from the start, with the impressive Rodrigo Da Silva pulling the strings. He forced two saves from KL keeper Arif Alias before Pahang took the lead after five minutes, Rodrigo and De Souza combining to set up Sirhan Aiman for his third goal of the season.
From there the goals kept coming. De Souza set up Rodrigo for number two, then added a third himself after Razim's header back across goal.
Harith Na'im added a fourth, and further goals before half time gave Pahang a commanding 6-0 lead. Rodrigo scored the goal of the match, a brilliant volley from a corner, and Muhammad Syarifuddin scored with just under two minutes of the first half remaining.
The second half was a complete contrast. Despite enjoying plenty of possession, Pahang failed to add to their tally, largely due to several fine saves from KL City keeper Arif Alias.
KL did get a goal back through Dodie Al Fareq with six minutes to go. That proved to be the only goal of the second half as Pahang ran out 6-1 winners and moved to the top of the table with thirteen points out of a possible fifteen.
