Hosts and two-time defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim were last to take to the court on Matchday One as they played USM, and it was a straightforward victory for Joao Almeida's side in front of their own supporters.

It took the Circuit 1 hosts nearly five minutes to take the lead, but Ridzwan Bakri was on the mark to break the deadlock and the goals flowed from there.

They added three more before half time as USM struggled to contain JDT, Awalludin Mat Nawi, Bruno Taffy and Mahadir Harahap all scoring to help them to a commanding 4-0 half-time lead.

The goals came quickly in the second half as well, Bruno Taffy making it five, Andresito scoring twice and Bruno Taffy completing his hat-trick with another goal in between as JDT ran riot.

USM did not give up and made sure there was no clean sheet for JDT as Eikmal Daniel pulled one back, but that joy was short-lived as the eight-goal cushion was restored almost immediately through Ekmal Shahrin.

That proved to be the end of the scoring as JDT began their 2026 campaign with an emphatic 9-1 win to make a statement of intent to the rest of the division once again.
