A tough task in the first match of the day in Johor, as USM took on Selangor, who had a 100% record after the first three matchdays and had scored an impressive 32 goals in those games.
It took eight minutes for Selangor to find a way past keeper Azizul Yusoff, Aidil Shahril Rosli getting the opener, and that was quickly followed by a second from Farhan Khairul.
USM continued to be on the back foot and they conceded again when Marlon made it three, and Selangor added two more before half time to go in with a 5-0 lead, Syahir Iqbal and Aidil Afiqzam setting Selangor on the way to another three points.
The second half was a much closer affair as USM frustrated Selangor's goalscoring efforts.
Selangor only managed to add one to their tally, Evandro tapping in to make it six.
USM did score twice to add some respectability to the scoreline. Izzat Aqiyudin took advantage of an empty net with keeper Azizul nowhere to be seen, and he added his second from the penalty spot after Selangor committed their sixth foul.
It is still maximum points now from four matches for Edgar Baldasso's team, as whatever happens, they will go into Circuit Three as league leaders.
