Selangor 14-0 USM

The final game of circuit 6 saw leaders Selangor looking to restore their eight-point lead at the top of the table as they took on a USM side who have lost their last two, including a narrow 5-4 defeat to KL City on matchday 1.

Selangor, without Evandro Borges, who suffered a facial injury in the matchday 1 clash with Pahang Rangers, wasted no time and were 3-0 up inside two minutes.

Saiful Nizam, Faris Johan and Muhammad Aidil all scored as USM struggled to get a touch of the ball.

The goals just kept coming, Faris Johan grabbed his second of the match after USM gave the ball away deep in their own half.

Even goalkeeper Syawal Sabaruddin got in on the act as he fired a shot across his opposite number Afif Syukran to make it 5-0.

Four more goals followed before half time, captain Mohd Khairul scored twice in quick succession, Syahir Iqbal, one of their outstanding players of the season, grabbed his 13th of the campaign, and just before half time Marlon’s backheel set up Mohd Khairul to complete his hat-trick.

USM’s previous heaviest defeat was 9-1 against JDT on the season’s opening day. They found themselves 9-0 behind here at half time.

USM did manage to slow down the flow of goals in the second half but once the first went in plenty more followed, it took seven minutes before Mohd Khairul made it 10-0 with his 4th goal of the match.

Tricky Brazilian Marlon was pulled down for a penalty which he converted for his 22nd of the season to retake the lead at the top of the scoring table.

Haziq Haikal stabbed in from a corner, Marlon added his 23rd of the season and a 14-0 win was rounded off as Faris Johan became the second Selangor player to grab a hat-trick.

USM’s biggest defeat of the season by some distance as they stay one off the bottom of the table.

Selangor have an eight-point lead at the top over JDT and Pahang Rangers.
