Preview: JDT v Wipers

The MPFL 2026 regular season draws to a close in Selangor on Sunday, and there is little disguising the gulf in fortunes between JDT and Wipers heading into their final fixture of the campaign. Joao Almeida's side arrive on the back of a routine 5-0 win over Terengganu, Mohd Ridzwan's brace among a rapid first-half salvo that took JDT to 37 points from 15 matches and second place in the table all but wrapped up, regardless of what happens here.

Wipers, by contrast, arrive having been beaten 10-0 by Pahang Rangers on Saturday, a result that leaves them bottom of the table on a single point from 15 matches, still searching for their first win of the season. Pahang Rangers, who finished their own campaign in that rout, have no fixture this matchday and can only watch on, their 37 points from 16 matches already comfortably short of what JDT can add to their own tally by full time.

The sides have met once already this season, JDT running out 17-0 winners, the heaviest scoreline recorded by any side in the MPFL this year, and there is little in recent form from either camp to suggest Sunday's meeting will be any closer. In truth, JDT were never in danger of losing this one. With second place already effectively secure, the only real questions left for Joao Almeida's side are how many they score and who takes the individual honours, with Mohd Ridzwan, Muhammad Ekmal and Andresito all among the scorers as JDT put five past Terengganu on Saturday.

For Wipers, pride is the only currency left to play for. Mohd Ruzaley Abdul Aziz's side have lost twelve of their fourteen previous matches, with only a single draw against ATM to show for a difficult debut campaign, and a first win, or even a draw against the division's form side, would be a story in itself. Captain Faris Al Irfan's side showed some fight in Shah Alam on Saturday, two players cautioned as they refused to simply give in against Pahang Rangers, and a similar application will be needed if they are even to make a game of it here.

With Selangor already assured of finishing top of the table and the play-offs to follow, this match doubles as the final act of the regular season for both clubs. There is no real jeopardy left for JDT, who go in knowing only a wholesale capitulation could cost them second spot, and every incentive instead to head into the semi-finals with confidence high and the goals still flowing. For Wipers, simply making it a contest, or better still finding the net for the first time in weeks, would be a fitting way to close out a chastening first campaign.
