Match Preview: ATM v Selangor
Selangor will look to extend their winning run to 13 matches and increase their lead at the top when they take on ATM in the opening game on matchday 2.
ATM will need something close to a season-best performance to play unbeaten Selangor in Circuit 7 Matchday 2, with Selangor's 100% record still intact after matchday 1.
Selangor's 11-3 demolition of Terengganu on Matchday 1 stretched their run to twelve matches without defeat, a sequence built on a relentless attacking output that has seen them rack up double-figure scorelines on multiple occasions this season, and they reached 100 goals in total.
Marlon, Syahir Iqbal and Mohd Khairul all found the net in that win, underlining the strength in depth that has made Selangor's front line the most feared in the division.
ATM, by contrast, come into the match after a 1-1 draw with Wipers in the opening round, a result that at least halted a run of three straight defeats. It was a far from convincing display, and not picking up three points against a side who had previously lost every match will have been tough to take in a stop-start season that has seen them with three wins, three draws and five losses so far.
The two sides have already met once this year, back in May, when Selangor ran out 9-2 winners, and ATM's defence will know it faces an even sterner test this time around against a side that has only strengthened since.
Much will depend on ATM's ability to stay compact and limit the space afforded to Selangor's international pair, with any lapse likely to be punished ruthlessly on this evidence. For Selangor, the aim will simply be to continue a near-flawless campaign and maintain daylight at the top of the standings, with little in ATM's recent form suggesting they can spring an upset.
