MPFL Social Media Report 2026
148.3 Million Views: The MPFL's First Media Season in Numbers. A season of growth beyond expectations.

Selangor were crowned MPFL 2026 champions on 31 October, beating Pahang Rangers in extra time in Shah Alam in a final that also marked a first for the league's broadcasts. For the first time, the commentary was produced in Bahasa Malaysia, English and Portuguese. Selangor won the second leg 5-2 in normal time to level the tie on points, then won the extra period 2-1 with Syahir Iqbal's goal in the 50th minute, taking a fourth league title, the most of any club in the Malaysian futsal top flight, according to the ASEAN Football Federation.
The first leg in Kuantan, which Pahang won 4-3, produced the biggest live audience of the season: 17,406 at its peak, the highest figure for any single match.
That was the high point of a season in which the league's numbers grew far beyond anything it had recorded before. Between 15 May and 3 November, the six MPFL channels generated 148.3 million views, 71,037 followers and 3.41 million interactions, according to the season report by Strive Sports, the league's media partner. Viewers watched 362,000 hours on YouTube alone, more than 41 years of continuous viewing. In all, 80 matches were streamed live.
All six channels launched from zero on 15 May, with no paid promotion. The league began the season without channels of its own, a website or a structured offer for sponsors. It was broadcast on Astro in 2023 and 2024, and after that agreement ended, the 2025 season was distributed through third-party YouTube channels and recorded 864,000 views. This year's total is more than 170 times that figure, although the two are not measured on exactly the same basis.
Instagram was the biggest channel, with 71,979,743 views from 15,950 followers. Facebook, which opened on 5 July, recorded 47,209,101 views from 29,852 followers, and TikTok 22,415,690 from 12,291. YouTube added 4,168,876 views from 10,400 subscribers, Threads 2,505,481 and X 14,698. The top three platforms accounted for more than 95% of all views.
On YouTube, the MPFL ranked fourth of eight national futsal leagues in its first four months, with 1,753,204 views. That placed it behind only Thailand's MEA Futsal Thai League (5.05 million), Brazil's LNF (4.73 million) and Spain's Primera División (2.27 million), and ahead of Indonesia's Pro Futsal League (1.61 million). The three leagues ahead have run their channels since 2009, 2015 and 2023. The MPFL recorded 248 views per subscriber, and no other league on the list exceeded 31.
The football produced numbers of its own. Nine clubs played 72 league matches across three venues, Pasir Gudang, Shah Alam and Kuantan, and scored 599 goals, an average of 8.3 a match. Selangor won all 16 of their league matches and scored 126 of those goals, before the play-offs delivered a final that went to extra time.
Strive says views are summed across channels and do not represent unique people, and the report is based on native platform exports and the YouTube API. Even on that basis, a league that had no channels of its own in May finished the season with a live peak of 17,406 and a final commentated in three languages.
