Preview: USM v PFA Odin
Both USM and PFA Odin are playing for pride in their final games of the 2026 MPFL season.
The MPFL 2026 regular season draws to its final close in Selangor on Sunday, and while USM's meeting with PFA Odin Sarawak carries no bearing whatsoever on the play-off picture, with both sides long since cut adrift of the automatic places, there remains a final league position, and no shortage of pride, riding on the outcome.
Mohd Yuzmuhaimizee Bin Yaacob's USM sit seventh on 10 points from 15 matches after Saturday's 5-4 defeat to ATM, a game in which Muhammad Izzat and Ahmad Muazzim both found the net before Mohammad Eikmal's late double very nearly rescued a point. That result, allied to ATM's form elsewhere, has left USM's own play-off hopes mathematically over, but a win here would guarantee them seventh place in the final standings, above a PFA Odin Sarawak side they have already beaten once this season, 4-3, in the early rounds.
PFA Odin Sarawak, for their part, arrive having been on the receiving end of a 12-1 hammering by Selangor on Saturday, Mohammad Dzul Idzwaniezam Bin Madin's late consolation goal offering little comfort after a chastening afternoon in Shah Alam. Mohd Faizal Bin Zamri's side sit eighth on nine points, level on games played with USM, and know only a win will be enough to leapfrog their opponents and avoid finishing the campaign bottom but one, having already picked up three cautions in Saturday's defeat.
Both sides go into the match still shell-shocked from heavy weekend defeats, USM having conceded four goals in ten dramatic second-half minutes against ATM, PFA Odin Sarawak having shipped twelve in Shah Alam, and there may be an opening here for whichever side recovers its composure fastest. USM will check on the availability of Muhammad Danial Zhafirul Bazlan, sent off in the closing stages against ATM, before finalising their side, while PFA Odin Sarawak's Mohammad Safiq Bin Hamzah and Amriee Marzuqie Bin Juma'adee both carry cautions from Saturday and will be wary of picking up a second in as many matches.
Neither side has anything left to play for beyond final position and bragging rights, with Wipers already all but assured of finishing bottom of the table regardless of how this one goes. For USM and PFA Odin Sarawak, though, closing out a difficult campaign with a win, and the seventh place that comes with it, would count for something as attention turns to next season.
This match kicks off alongside the final fixture of the regular season proper, KL City's home meeting with Selangor, which will settle fourth place and confirm whether the leaders complete the group phase unbeaten. For USM and PFA Odin Sarawak, there is no such drama at stake, but a low-key finish to the campaign in Shah Alam will still matter to two sides who have spent much of the season looking up at the places that count.
